You can't play & host from same machine @ same time.

Is there a check in place to stop you from launching ded + client?
You could always host in a VM or off another machine in your network.

you can host a server on the same pc as you play, however it is highly unadvised, for starters you will get appalling performance in the game as the server will be using a fair amount of the cpu and gpu processing power.

Also your ISP's will not be very happy with you and in some ISP's terms and conditions it does state that customers are not permitted to use their broadband connections for servers due to the excessive bandwidth you will take up

So generally speaking, only host a home server if you have sufficient speeds and permissions from your ISP and a proper server pc or get a proper dedicated server box from a GSP and install the dedicated server files or rent a server from a GSP

We will host dedicated ranked servers for now. We have a pretty good cluster setup. If the dedicated servers are full, players are given the option to peer2peer. If they chose not to, they'll have to wait for a dedicated ranked server to open up.

Any player will be allowed to host dedicated servers using HLDS tool with all the standard custom match options as well as a map list.

Thanks Kedhrin, for confirming what I've been saying all along. Only the Devs will host the Ranked Dedis and no one else. so my question is: who will moderate these ranked Servers?

even if it is only "for now" no one knows if and when we will be allowed to host ranked servers. But the real problem is that this game needs all the players it can get NOW. That's where communities and clan based/moderated servers come in. These communities provide populated servers in large numbers. We all know the effects non moderated servers can have. Our group has many players on the fence on whether to buy this game or not. I get many Steam messages from other clan/community leaders/members inquiring about the dedis and ranked or un-ranked servers. This game needs a large dosage of players and it needs it NOW.

in other words: They will host the ranked servers. Those are pub servers which are not moderated and it's not what clans and gaming communities want in a multiplayer game. Don't get me wrong, it's great that they will provide these servers for the general public but it's not conducive to community based groups or Clans.

in other words: They will host the ranked servers. Those are pub servers which are not moderated and it's not what clans and gaming communities want in a multiplayer game. Where did you get this info? and who's going to moderate the illfonic servers? and if you knew anything about clans and community multiplayer groups, they're happiest on thier own servers. Always been that way.

Meaning that you'll be able to download and host your own nexuiz dedicated server, and run a standard custom match (aka unranked server) from the hlds tool.

You don't need to be rude either; I am quite familiar with what clans and communities want.

Yes I saw your previous post. You've misunderstood what I've stated in my previous posts. Communities can still run their own servers. Who cares about moderation of the ranked pub servers? You can moderate your own community server.

I don't know, I digress. It's disappointing that yet another game is taking the path that cod/bf3 has. UTx/Qx didn't have ranks, those games where about having fun.
