Great informative video about the game with commentary from both a casual player and a professional UT2k4/painkiller player.

This video pretty much indicates what's the main reason why the community is near dead.
-Mutators are too casual, The no-mutator gameplay needs to be more emphasized.
-The game does not display enough information to calculate weapon damage, armor, spawn times.
-The movement has no depth, no method to speed up properly. Clumsy movement still remains.
-I am missing things from quake like the small armor, megahealth, health bubbles etc etc.

Oh, so that's what's killed every FPS in the last 20 years, competitive gaming.

Also, it never ceases to amaze how in our current century ignorance has become societies greatest virtue.

The developers should listen to them
CPU - Intel E7500, MoBo - P5Q SE PLUS, RAM - 2x1 GB DDR2 @ 800 MHz dual-channel mode, Graphics - nVIDIA 9600GT 512 GDDR3, HDD - WD7501AALS, Sound - Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, Windows 7 SP1 x86, all with the latest drivers.

True. That's why I kind of took this as them discussing vanilla Nexuiz. The game can indeed be made more competitively interesting by disabling all or some of the mutators.

Absolutely true, but dedicated servers do NOT have such an option as they are not customisable by the player.

And actually, late in the video, they did mention that you can turn mutators off.

Agree with everything except for the last point, this isn't Quake so of course things from Quake are missing and that's not a bad thing.

There's only 2 items of importance on any map, and that's the big armor(yet there's no small armor) and strength. Are you honestly implying that in order for a weaker player to make a comeback, 2 items is enough?
Quake deliberately had more, simply due to the fact that timing 1 item is easy, timing 2 items is also relatively easy. But timing 3, 4 or 5 items becomes so hard that weaker players actually have a chance to get the lesser items.

I see where you're coming from, but it sounds odd to say that things from a different game are missing, for better or worse Nexuiz needs to be unique with its own positives and own quirks. Wanting balance is something entirely different. But, tbh, I was never a fan of Quake so our perspective is going to be entirely different. The less this game is about pickups and learning the map, the better I'm going to like it. Things like megahealth I don't really like the sound of, ideally there'd be no armor pickups at all, that way each battle is closer to being 100% even, but that's just my opinion. I get it though.

There's usually more than one place to get an important item.
Also, there's small armour everywhere.

If you've ever played Quake on a semi competitive level, you know that armor chips in a straight line are a dead give away of your location and trajectory. A stronger player will abuse that fact and not only predict your every move, but it will also allow him to home into your location and kill you relatively easily.

Just because this game isn't Quake, doesn't mean it can't take Quake as an example when implementing a competitive playing field. Quake was and still is competitive, Nexuiz however isn't doing that very well yet.

And who wants Nexuiz to be a competitive game? I'm pretty sure Illfonic are not going to budge to change core game mechanics, just to appeal to a group that has not even turned an eye to it.

I want it to be competitive. Other people want it to be competitive.
But I guess it will never be competitive because you don't want it to be competitive; your wish for Nexuiz to not be competitive is obviously more valid than our wish for it to be competitive.

Ohwait. We do have a right to post on the developers' forums about wanting our recently purchased to be more competitive :o

Unlike Quake, Nexuiz has more open movement, so you're not stuck in a direction in order to maintain speed like Q3. So, if you're moving predictably through the stage, that's your fault.
