I recommend DXTory over Fraps.
If you want some help with Virtualdub, ask away. I might be able to help a bit.

I dont like fraps at all. It drops your FPS so much its not even funny.
As above i highly recommend Dxtory. Its has so many features and settings for recording your gameplay.
Sadly it cost $40 (unless you're a piratePosted Image)
I used to use it before however I stumbled across a free program called MSI Afterburner. I think it is the best program out there (performance wise). Make sure you get the BETA version on the web site, then you can record your audio too. Once you get it go to options and designate a button to record - voila! I think Dxtory and this are the best programs on the market. However if you want simplicity and best performance the MSI Afterburner is the way to go!

Afterburner is actually based on DXTory... It has the same codec and hook method, and generally performs like an older DXTory version.

Hey GQ, I was just wondering, what mouse dpi do you recommend for Nexuiz? I'm not a veteran twitch shooter like you people, but i sure do like to learn.

Need demos to work, no way am I running video capture progs while trying to play any game.

I use 800DPI, I used to use 3200 becasue using any lower my G9 would skip when doing fast flick shots.

Use whatever you're comfortable with. If someone tells you a dpi is wrong, they're just trying to hivemind to feel good about themselves.
The only time a higher dpi is bad is when the laser doesn't track effectively at that resolution.(or you have a surface that the laser doesn't track accurately on at that resolution) If you want lower sensitivity, you can usually just lower your in-game sensitivity.

Well i have a microsoft intellimouse Explorer 3.0. Oldschool mouse that i've played with for as long as i can remember. I dont even know the exact DPI of the mouse but it works fine for me. And as for sensitivity i always go by the rule "one fast sweep across the mousepad should equal a 180 degree turn ingame". XXL mousepad low-medium sens is how i like it.

I 100% agree with you Keefy, demos/replays is something i really wish they would add. It's a pain having to use video captures while playing. A single 10-15 min TDM game is 25-40 gig's of hdd space -_-
