Final Nail in the Coffin

And what do the oh so wise developers decide to do?
Paid DLC.
Let me just see if I got this straight. You plan on releasing paid DLC (a fundamentally flawed and scorned concept) for a game that nobody plays, few people even know about and is still just barely playable? In what possible way did you think this would help the future of your game? There's already too many people out there who feel they have wasted 10$ (myself among them, sadly) and you think they'll be willing to dish out another 5$? Did anyone even pause for a second to think about the whole situation? It sure doesn't seem that way from my end.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's been proven in the past that paid DLC spells certain death to any game that doesn't have a huge player base, especially if it doesn't offer anything awe-inspiring. This goes double for indie games. Want a perfect example? Let me tell you about a little indie game called Section 8: Prejudice. Great game. Cheap game. Dead. Why? Paid DLC. They barely started out with a good price of 15$, had a small but steady player base and they decided to split it right down the middle with some good ol' fashioned CoD inspired map packs. I don't think I need to describe what happened next, but needless to say, the game is now officially abandoned.
Want another exampe? This time a high budget game. Brink. Broken game, not many players. Granted, DLC wasn't what killed this game, but it sure as hell didn't exactly inspire anyone to really give it a shot.
Honestly, from the looks of things, it seems like all you're doing here is just trying to cut your losses after what a failure your game was (sale and community wise) by tossing out a quick addon for an extra few bucks before you abandon it entirely.
I don't suppose there's any point in saying this now, with the DLC comming out in a day or so and the price being set, but you should really, really, think long and hard about what you're doing here, because I'm quite certain you didn't the first time around.
I personally had hopes and a good feeling about this game when I first saw it in action. So much so that I actually decided to pre-order it. So far, I have to say it hasn't lived up to my expectations in the least and the games peak was (ironically) reached during beta, when you could at least find a match if not exactly be able to play.
Don't take me the wrong way. I know nobody will take my thread seriously, least of all the developers. But I felt I had to put this out there, not because I hate the game, but because I once had hope for it.
Please reconsider putting the proverbial final nail in this game's coffin.

I don't think anyone will buy it without testing these fixes - if they really have fixed the game this DLC alongside a sale on steam might just be the reboot Nexuiz needs.

We're still giving away a lot for free. $5 is not much money. We still have bills to pay and put food in our stomach. Yes we had a rough launch but we still haven't abandoned the community or this game. The IllFonic team has been in a crunch even STILL post launch trying to get things fixed. There are many things in play here.

The Duel DLC is on a seperate budget than the rest of Nexuiz and was in production long before release. This paid DLC gives us a chance to open other side budgets to advertise the game and hopefully lure in other players. This DLC is also $5. We're giving out a ton of extra free content with this patch. It's 100% fair to say this content is dirt cheap and still a steal. There are many things behind the scenes as to why this DLC costs money which I won't disclose. The reasoning is very far from what you're thinking it is.

I have a question regarding the blue-room maps; are those affected by this DLC in any way? Will they be free or more DLC?
The one that won, I think it was Map 3, will be released free along with the patch.
