Capture the Flag is a game type that has seen less and less light in modern shooters as they tend to suit the area control game types with their slower paced game play. However CTF is the objective bread and butter of the Arena FPS and has been for many years. It offers players fast paced objective game play with a high emphasis on attack/defensive balance.

So what strategies have people found effective for this game type in Nexuiz? any particularly good flag routes for specific maps? or just general strats?

3v3 general Strategy

Personally I have only been using one general strat so far, as it is 3v3 still when playing with a party we have been running 1 Slayer on defence, 1 support role mid map turning over from defence to attack and vice versa depending on what the enemy are doing & then 1 objective role on the flag cap.

Aggressive Enemy
If the enemy are a better team than ourselves and go on the attack then we dig in with two players on defence and the objective player takes up the mid map role, defending for the most but keeping an eye out for a cheeky flag cap where possible. This will generally allow for us to get a couple of flag caps while minimising the enemies caps, this usually will just run out the clock rather than cap limit for a win by majority caps.

Defensive Enemy
When the enemy team are play a heavy defence, or against a team of lower skill level/experience, it is our teams chance to go on the offence. Typically this would be the objective player doing his thing while the mid map role pushes up into the enemy base for additional fire power and support. The defensive role will mainly stay back at our flag unless there is no action then they would push up into mid map position for support and general fragging fun.

Random/Poorly Organised Enemy
In this case we would play the same strat as against a defensive team but run a flag relay between the objective player and support player. While the Slayer usually in defence would take a much more traditional slayer role and freely patrol the map for frags and generally causing problems for the other team.

My best tactic is to put someone next to our flag, someone in the door to our flag (to guard the entrance) and someone to run and take the flag. When we get the enemy's flag, the door player runs in the direction of our flag carrier and engage combat (to slow down enemies and get some cover to our flag carrier). Another strategy is to position the door player in some cover with the Nex and/or Electro to take out enemies way before they reach our base.

When my friend and I are playing, we usually just run the two for the flags and kill everyone xD. But against real players (I played mostly versus demo players :( ) I don't think it will work. By the way, those are pretty useful tactics. Thanks mister TorturedElf.

I have one moderator near the middle of the map a moving gaurd that gaurds the insides and outsides. And a slayer flag runner who is good in tight situations and is fast. Great tips though Elf!!
