My mistake, I believe I was thinking about UT2004. Oh well i own the game legally so I torrented a copy, and now I find out my vpn doesn't allow me to play UT99 online. :C

Is there no workaround for that?

Eugh, I contacted overplay (vpn provider) about this, it turns out they have a few of the steam ports blocked and refuse to unblock them as its apparrently a security risk. -_- im sure not all vpn's have essential steam ports blocked, they said that they culd potentially unblock specific IP's. My subscription runs out with them next month, so maybe i can find a vpn with servers in my country that doesnt block certain essential ports. hmm.

I'm not very good at networking, but what if you dont use steam?

Well basically its not just steam, its just certain networks that they deem insecure so they will block ports >1024 across them making certain games unplayable online. I'm currently researching to see if I can find a VPN with servers in New Zealand which counters this issue.

Fixed! (for now) I'm trying a new vpn and it seems to work. C:
