I'm curious to see if anyone here plays classic nexuiz. I still play it from time to time (kind of hard not to, I've been playing it for the last four years!). I think I'll copy/paste some old threads I started a while ago in some abandoned forums and put them here if anyone is interested in seeing them (they have a lot of good information about Classic Nexuiz).

Used to play it a couple years ago on a mac. Was a lot of fun on some servers with maps I liked. Pleasantly surprised with Nexuiz XBLA so far, but the matchmaking errors & almost never saving stats are pretty big problems.

I tried the Xonotic fork last year, but the servers are very empty! There I also learnt about Illfonic's hostile takeover of the Nexuiz franchise

Unfortunately, almost everything those Xonotic guys preach about us and our "hostile" take over is false. I believe we have the old AlienTrap forums where I tried talking to them all. There was nothing in our actions that was wrong or shady. Most of the Xonotic guys are cool, but they do have some severe trolls.

Pretty much everything that Kedhrin said is true. I honestly see nothing wrong in what illfonic did; how can they be held responsible? They aren't the ones who sold the name, but rather are the ones who bought the name. People of xonotic were just too quick to blame it all on someone, and it pretty much happened to be illfonic. Unfortunately, xonotic bares little resemblance to what classic nexuiz is, which then brings up the question: What happens to the unique balance and physics of classic nexuiz? Nexuiz 2.5.2 balance is by no means perfect, and I actually feel that classic nexuiz had started going down hill with the release of 2.5 (which brought a lot of changes that started to reshape the gameplay of classic nexuiz). Hopefully more people will take interest in classic nexuiz if another release were to happen..after all, generally any new release of nexuiz brings a whole new wave of players.

Side note: I made the mistake of putting this into the announcement page of classic nexuiz...if someone could move it to the general discussion for classic nexuiz (if necessary, anyway) I would greatly appreciate it!

Hopefully more people will take interest in classic nexuiz if another release were to happen..after all, generally any new release of nexuiz brings a whole new wave of players.

Is this kinda gossip (reverie) or is there a concrete plan to provide a new release of classic nexuiz ??

I still play the Classic Nexuiz but manly with bots though as i see no one on and i have a question why do Nexuiz and Xonotic players hate each other for, cant the two make a truse or is it far beyond that ?

Nope it.s kinda habit. When I played first time Xon the movement feel crappy ... after a while I get used to it and now I feel fine.
Another disadvantage of Xon is in the moment that the map pool is pretty small.
A lot of long term players in Nex wont feel as newbee in a new game with new movement with a new hut ...

So let see what time bings - as far I know Nex wont be under development ... so Xon will be the future

I'm not particularly up to speed with all the differences between xon and nexuiz, but it was my understanding that the xon movement was changed to allow faster strafe jump turning, and to prevent some kind of perpetual acceleration that nexuiz had.

there aren't many people on either game though. I believe the nexuiz players ought to give xonotic a serious try since support for classic nexuiz is over. There are many Q3A spin-offs already, having the nexuiz/xon community divided is bad for both communities.

Well, the tensions appeared because both Vermeulen which owned the project, and LordHavoc, which had neither done anything towards developing Nexuiz in the last few years, went out and sold the game to this commercial company without asking or even letting know the community about it. I think it was like 4 people which knew that the game was being sold, and two of those were Vermeulen and LordHavoc. Pretty crappy way to treat the community. And the reviews in this new Nexuiz havent been specially great, have they?
