My experience "off host" in private matches. Yesterday I played dozens of 2v2s and 3v3s on basically every map. With some UT3 OGs.

I came to the annoying conclusion: Rocket Launcher is the TRUTH.

I personally prefer the electro since it reminds me of the G.W.O.A.T: the shock rifle.
However the rocket is the weapon to use in Mid range, close range combat.
My buddy argued it's like that in UT but that is not the case. You can use the link gun, the flak cannon, or various other weapons and win against a rocket.

From what I've seen the rocket is the BEST weapon in the game on basically every map with the exception of a few maps with increased verticality like Refinery where I can indulge in my Electro fascination.

Basically to keep it in line with K.I.S.S and not type an essay...
1. I am suggesting that the speed of the rocket's projectile is slowed down a bit.

2. The crylink gets beefed up. BUT ONLY A TAD.

3. Ravager slightly beefed up.

4. Electro alt fire and combo feature beefed up maybe.

5. Hagar beefed up maybe 10-20%

I'm basically suggesting that all weapons become equally as deadly.
Or as close to it as possible.

I don't mind using the rocket launcher but I want to be able to use the other weapons and not risk giving the other player an advantage.

Don't change the rocket AND do the other things listed. I would suggest leaving the rocket alone. I agree with all of your other points. Some weapons do need buffing.

I think the Rocket Laucher is one of the strongest weapons of the game too, but I don't think it need to be nerfed... most people doesn't seems to know how to use it propely, also it needs a good aim because of the low rate of fire. Nex is a strong weapon too but I think it's easy to dodge snipers in this game. ClanCutter is another strong weapon if you're with the "strenght" pickup (or the strenght/double strenght mutator).

If the other weapons get beefed up than I'm fine with that. :)
I haven't realled messed around with the clan cutter to much but MAYBE give the primary fire 5-10% increase in damage per shot.

& my opinion on the rocket launcher comes from having played PUGS all day. Random players of course cannot use the rocket launcher.

Pick Up Games.
For nexuiz we just have everybody in the middle start the game. (does a bad job of randomising teams) So we balanced out as we saw fit.

I have quite a bit of hands on with all the guns and have been able to use all the weapons effectively in different roles. For instance if they buff the crylink people won't be happy. That gun finds its stride between the typical close and medium range combat distances. Always feels like 3 decent hits will drop them 4 or 5 if you are sloppy. The only weapon I actually agree with you on is the electro. It should be buffed slightly. Right now I use it as a support weapon with my buddy cleaning up the kills. With the small splash damage it works well enough this way. I think the reason these weapons seem ineffective is because you aren't running with a team. When you stick together with even just one player the rate people drop is extremely quick.
I'll invert your sticks any chance I get.

I would like to see the rocket's secondary ability removed. It makes the weapon too versatile and powerful and nearly impossible to dodge.

No. That's what makes rockets unique.

But it gives them way too much versatility. You were killing me in one shot with the mid-air detonation when it didn't even look like the rocket was close to me. Not only are they the most powerful weapon in the game aside from the Nex, but with that ability they don't even require the use of a floor or a wall to be effective. Its just too versatile for a weapon that damaging.

The only defense against rockets that powerful is to use slopes and the geometry to force the enemy into bad angles. With the ability to detonate mid-air, that defense goes out the window and there is no tactical way to defend against rockets.

Maybe have the rocket use more ammo? Personally I would hate to see that feature removed.

Or just have the mid air explosion do slightly less damage. Maybe I just have a bad taste because that connection wasn't the best for me, but it felt like there was no counter to it other than to use the Nex from long range. Combine that with the shotgun nerf and it felt like the only useful weapons were the Rockets, Mortar and Nex.

Completely agree, the mortar, nex, and rockets seem to be the only viable weapons unless you have strength or a super weapon. Even the shotgun seems to outclass alot of the other weapons.

I really like the idea about detonated rockets doing less damage than rockets striking a surface.

I don't like that idea. IMO :) The rockets would become useless. I think we should all try to get much better at this game before we make judgments. We're all n00bs to this game. Stratagies will develop. Affinities will change.

Well said. I think the movement is quite a big change for people at the minute. Once they learn how to move efficiently the rockets will be easier to dodge.

My idea for rockets:

Primary fire: Cant steer the rocket but can remote detonate

Alternate fire: Can steer rocket but can't remote detonate

I personally don't feel rockets are over powered but this would balance them out some for the people that do. Also, I've been in multiple situations where I would have liked to fire a rocket and turn my attention to something else but I couldn't because it would send my rocket flying off course.
