You should be delighted to know that while the original Nexuiz development was killed off the game does live on with "Xonotic". It's the true continuation of the game, unlike Illfonic's iteration which is basically a remake that was based more on the whims of the 10 devs at Illfonic, and less on the voice of the community. The only significant changes you will find in Xonotic from the Classic Nexuiz formula are the improved networking, HD textures, better player models, and tweaks to the physics(in order to allow cornering without losing speed).
I beg to differ. Classic nexuiz > xonotic. HD textures and player models are purely aesthetics. The "tweaks to the physics" weren't done to only allow cornering without losing speed, but to make the entire movement much more simpler. Xonotic wants people to learn the movement to its fullest potential in a short time span, and I think it has accomplished just that. The skill curve has been greatly reduced. Xonotic is a watered down, handicapped version of nexuiz (wheelchair accessible, as a friend of mine likes to put it).
